Silviu Preoteasa

Silviu's career runs from the infrastructure layer up to the boardroom. He started in the early 2000s building broadcasting and production infrastructure for MTV Romania and leading the team behind a custom-built ERP system, before designing highly redundant, scalable hosting on virtualisation, fail-over clusters and iSCSI storage. By 2006 he was the first provider in Europe of online backup and live data replication that exceeded Sarbanes-Oxley security requirements, and he sold his first venture the year after.

He then joined Dell as Online Business Manager, overseeing more than a billion dollars in online sales and earning a Dell Employee Gold Award, before moving to Hostelworld as Head of Marketing Technology through its acquisition of Hostelbookers and its 2015 IPO on the London and Dublin exchanges. In 2017 he launched the Travel Open Partnership and the foundations of Travel Science, and in 2018 founded Advanced Radio Mapping — a full-stack platform measuring presence and engagement in physical spaces, later extended with ARM Signals, a real-time data processing platform for industrial IoT.

Alongside operating companies he has been a public-market investor since 2007 and an angel investor across more than a dozen startups since 2013, holding private stakes in companies including SpaceX and Stripe. He chaired Entrepreneurs Anonymous, growing its Dublin membership from roughly 900 to 5,000, and developed the Employee Sentiment Indicator, a signal for directional trading of public companies. In 2024 he began deploying LLM agents to augment the workforce.

That combination — infrastructure, e-commerce, platform building, markets and now applied AI — is what he brings to GenAI Skills Academy. The focus is on using AI to re-engineer and optimise business processes for small and mid-sized organisations, translating frontier capability into systems that change how a business actually runs.
